The 28th day of the final month in the lunar calendar is a very special day. It is the tradition of Hong Kong, Macau and places in southern Guangdong to have an annual clean-up. In 2023, it falls on 19 January (Thursday).
This annual clean-up was illustrated and recorded in the nianhua (年畫) of the 19th Century.

Hi Patrick
Thank you for reminding me this practice. I still remembered my mother and my grandmother’s cleaning up all those years ago. After that, they made all the New Year cakes, deep fried “kok ji” and the very large and round “jin dui”. Those were the days…….
It is sheer serendipity that I have also cleaned my house and roof top garden just yesterday !!
Best regards Dorothy
